
TLDR – Optimal Settings Kit
If you just want the settings and don't care about the "why," here's the full competitive config used by the majority of pro and high-rank players in 2026:
Display: Full screen | Your favorite resolution e.g. 2560x1440p or more often 1920x1080p | Max Hz | V-Sync OFF | Monitor preferably up to 24.5″.
Graphics: Everything Low/Off | Multithreaded Rendering ON | NVIDIA Reflex ON+Boost (unless you optimize with us 🙂)
Sensitivity: 800 DPI | 0.3-0.4 in-game | eDPI 240-320 (pro average: ~267)
Crosshair: Small static dot or cross | No movement/firing error | High-contrast color (cyan/white/yellow)
Audio: HRTF ON/OFF (depending on your headphones positioning – test it) | Effects 100% | Music 0% | Stereo
Keybinds: The defaults are decent – but you can always adjust them to your preferences! I know people who shoot with a keyboard and walk with a mouse XD.

Why Default Valorant Settings Are Holding You Back
Valorant runs on a potato. That's by design. Riot built the engine from scratch targeting 60 FPS on minimum spec hardware and 144+ FPS on mid-range machines. A six-year-old GTX 1660 Super can hit 240 FPS on low settings.
So why bother optimizing? Because Valorant's default settings are NOT optimized for competitive play. They're optimized for "looking nice on a new player's first login." Default settings include:
Bloom ON (washes out bright areas, obscures enemy models during ability usage)
Distortion ON (warps your screen during abilities, loses you visual information)
V-Sync OFF but no frame cap (render queue builds up, adds input lag)
NVIDIA Reflex OFF by default (you're leaving 30-50% latency reduction on the table)
Mouse acceleration possibly still ON in Windows (inconsistent aim)
Every one of these costs you milliseconds, frames, or visibility. In a game where a single Vandal headshot kills at any range, every pixel of clarity and every millisecond of responsiveness matters.
Video & Graphics Settings (The Full Breakdown)
Display:
Display Mode: Fullscreen. Always. No exceptions. Fullscreen gives your GPU exclusive access to the display output. Borderless Windowed adds a compositing step through Windows' Desktop Window Manager (DWM), which introduces extra latency. If you absolutely need to alt-tab quickly, Windows 11's "Optimizations for windowed games" (Settings > Display > Graphics) can make Borderless nearly as fast, but Fullscreen is still the gold standard.
Resolution: 1920×1080 (native). According to the ProSettings.net database (640+ pro players), the vast majority play at native 1080p. Valorant locks the FOV to 103 degrees regardless of resolution. Stretched makes the HUD scale to the aspect ratio of the resolution, but physical mouse movement is identical in 360 degrees. 1080p clarity is worth more, especially on larger maps where distance is massive.
Frequency: Maximum of your monitor. Check if Windows actually set this (Settings > System > Display > Advanced). Many people have a 240Hz monitor set to 60Hz because Windows defaults it, or they use HDMI instead of DisplayPort. We often catch this during optimizations, which is funny :D.
V-Sync: OFF. V-Sync forces your GPU to wait for the monitor's refresh cycle before showing a new frame. This adds up to one full frame of latency: 6.9ms at 144Hz, 4.2ms at 240Hz. Not worth it. If you get Terrible screen tearing, use G-Sync or FreeSync instead - they sync with less latency penalty
Limit FPS: Set to your monitor's refresh rate minus 3. So 237 for 240Hz, 141 for 144Hz. This prevents the render queue from building up (fewer queued frames = lower input lag) while keeping you at max refresh. If you have NVIDIA Reflex enabled (you should), it handles queue management automatically, but a cap still prevents unnecessary GPU heat. There are setups where the fps cap completely desyncs the game, so be careful with that.

Graphics Quality
Every single graphics quality setting should be on Low or Off for competitive play. This isn't about squeezing FPS from a weak GPU. It's about removing visual clutter that hides enemies.
Material Quality: Low. This is the single largest FPS impact setting in Valorant. At High, every surface runs a full physically-based rendering (PBR) shader pass with reflective highlights, wet-look finishes, and specular calculations. At Low, the engine uses simplified flat-lit shaders. On a GTX 1660 Super, switching Material Quality from High to Low recovers approximately 80-110 FPS. The visual difference only affects floor reflections and ability effects, not anything gameplay-relevant.
Texture Quality: Low. Texture Quality: Low. Controls surface detail. Low or Medium both provide a clean screen. You don't need 4K textures on the floor of Ascent to hit heads.
Detail Quality: Low. Controls background elements, foliage density, debris. High Detail Quality literally adds more visual noise for your brain to process. Less stuff on screen = easier to spot the enemy peeking that corner.
UI Quality: Low. Affects menu and HUD detail. Zero competitive impact.
Bloom: Off. Bloom makes bright areas glow and bleed into surrounding pixels. It can wash out enemy models near bright lights or during ability effects. Off.
Distortion: Off. This warps your screen during certain abilities (Omen paranoia, Astra pull, etc.). It's designed to disorient you. Why would you voluntarily leave that on?
Cast Shadows: Off. Exception: some players keep this On because it makes enemy shadows visible inside Viper's Pit and Phoenix's Run It Back. If you play against a lot of Vipers, experiment with On. Otherwise, Off saves frames.
Vignette: Off. Darkens screen edges. Purely aesthetic, slightly reduces visibility in corners of your FOV.
Anti-Aliasing: Off or MSAA 2x. Off gives cleanest performance. If jagged edges bother you, MSAA 2x costs minimal FPS but smooths lines.
Multithreaded Rendering: On. This is critical for multi-core CPUs. It distributes render work across CPU cores instead of bottlenecking on a single thread. Significant FPS gain on any CPU with 4+ cores.

NVIDIA Reflex
NVIDIA Reflex Low Latency: On + Boost.
This is the single most impactful setting for input lag in Valorant. Reflex synchronizes your CPU and GPU to eliminate the render queue. Without Reflex, your CPU might prepare frames faster than the GPU renders them, causing 3-4 frames to queue up. Each queued frame is latency you feel in your mouse.
"On + Boost" also keeps GPU clocks elevated so it's always ready to render immediately when a new frame arrives.
Reflex 2 with Frame Warp (RTX 50-series): If you have an RTX 5070 or newer, Valorant will probabbly support Reflex 2. Frame Warp takes the already-rendered frame and warps it at the last moment to reflect your newest mouse position. NVIDIA still didn't release that tech tho.
AMD users: Valorant supports AMD Anti-Lag 2 (being rebranded to FSR Latency Reduction 2.0). Enable it in Valorant's video settings, not in Adrenalin drivers. Requires RX 5000 series or newer.
Sensitivity & Mouse Settings
eDPI
eDPI (effective DPI) = Mouse DPI x In-game Sensitivity. This is the only number that matters for comparing sensitivity. 800 DPI at 0.35 sens and 400 DPI at 0.70 sens both give you 280 eDPI, and they feel identical in-game.
Pro average in 2026: 250-320 eDPI (based on ProSettings.net database of 640+ pro players, with the median at approximately 267 eDPI). This means the average pro moves their mouse about 45cm for a full 360-degree turn.
Recommended starting point: 800 DPI, 0.35 sensitivity (280 eDPI).
This is close to the pro average and provides a good balance between precision for headshots and speed for angle clearing. From here, adjust in small increments (0.02-0.03 at a time) and stick with each setting for at least 1-2 weeks before changing.
Role considerations: Duelists (entry fraggers): Slightly higher eDPI (280-350) can help with aggressive peeks and 180 flicks. Aspas plays at 320 eDPI. Controllers/Sentinels: Slightly lower eDPI (220-280) benefits precise smoke placement and angle holding. Boaster plays at 208 eDPI. But these are trends, not rules. TenZ (duelist) plays at 240 eDPI and switches his sens like socks. Pick what feels right and commit to it.
Warning: eDPI above 400 puts you in the statistical extreme. Only about 5% of VCT pros play above 400. If you're above 500, you are almost certainly overflicking and losing headshot precision. Move it down gradually.
DPI
~85% of pros use either 400 or 800 DPI. 800 is the most popular. Higher DPI (1600, 3200+) is technically smoother due to more granular tracking. Don't overthink this. Use 800 DPI and adjust your in-game sensitivity.
Scoped Sensitivity
1.0. Set to 1.0. This means your scoped (Operator/Marshal) sensitivity matches your hip-fire sensitivity relative to the FOV change. Almost every pro uses 1.0. Some Operator mains lower it to 0.9 (myself included) for more precise micro-flicks at range, but 1.0 is the safe default.
Polling Rate
In 2026, Valorant natively supports high polling rates. Going from 125Hz (8ms between updates) to 1000Hz (1ms) is a significant responsiveness improvement. Going from 1000Hz to 4000Hz is more subtle but noticeable at high levels and more advanced display such as OLED 360hz+. Pros are increasingly moving to 4000-8000Hz mice (Razer Viper V3 Pro, Variety chinese mice).
Note: Very high polling rates increase CPU load slightly. On budget CPUs, test both 1000Hz and max to make sure FPS doesn't drop. If your game stutters with these Polling rate settings, you need our optimization.

Windows Mouse Settings
Disable "Enhance pointer precision" (mouse acceleration). Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Mouse > Additional mouse settings > Pointer Options > Uncheck "Enhance pointer precision"
Crosshair
The competitive standard in 2026 is a small, static crosshair with no movement or firing error.
Turn off Movement Error and Firing Error. These make your crosshair expand when you move or shoot. It's visually misleading, teaches bad habits, and adds noise to your screen. A static crosshair always shows exactly where your first bullet goes when standing still.
Color: High-contrast. White, cyan, green, or yellow all work well against Valorant's maps. Many pros use yellow (enable Deuteranopia under Accessibility) for enemy highlight visibility. Experiment in the practice range.

Audio
Sound is one of the most underrated competitive advantages in Valorant. Footsteps, ability cues, reload sounds, spike beeps - all give critical information.
HRTF (Head-Related Transfer Function): ON. This is Valorant's built-in 3D spatial audio. It dramatically improves your ability to pinpoint direction and distance of sounds. Critical: Disable any third-party 3D audio processing (Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, Windows Sonic, virtual surround on your headset). These conflict with HRTF and make positional audio WORSE, not better.
Speaker Configuration: Stereo. Even with surround sound headphones, set this to Stereo. HRTF works best with a stereo signal.
Sound Effects Volume: 100%. Footsteps and gunfire need to be as loud and clear as possible.
Voice-Overs: 50%. Agent callouts are useful but shouldn't overpower gameplay audio.
Music: 0-10%. Background music provides zero competitive value and masks footstep audio. Kill it.
Voice Chat: Comfortable level. Needs to be audible but not drown out footsteps. Adjust per-session based on your team's mic volumes.
Push-to-Talk: Recommended. Open mic transmits keyboard clicks, background noise, breathing. Distracting for teammates.

Minimap
Rotate: On. This rotates the minimap relative to your facing direction. Makes it instantly clear where sounds and callouts are relative to your position.
Keep Player Centered: Off. This keeps the map fixed when you move, so you can always see the full map context rather than just your immediate surroundings.
Minimap Size: 1.1-1.2. Slightly larger than default. You want to be able to see teammates and spike positions at a glance without squinting, but not so large it blocks your peripheral vision.
Minimap Zoom: 0.7-0.8. Zoomed out enough to see the full map context.
Vision Cones: On. Shows where teammates are looking. Helps you understand what angles are covered without asking.

System Optimization (Beyond Valorant Settings)
In-game settings are only half the battle. Your Windows configuration, GPU drivers, and hardware setup contribute massively to how the game feels.

Hardware Profiles
Valorant is CPU-bound, not GPU-bound. Your processor matters more than your graphics card for hitting high, stable frame rates.
Budget Build (Target: Stable 240 FPS at 1080p Low): CPU: Intel i5-10400 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 GPU: GTX 1660 Super or RX 5600 XT RAM: 16GB DDR4 3200MHz (dual channel) Monitor: 144Hz or 165Hz 1080p (AOC 24G2, BenQ ZOWIE XL2411K) Both of these combos can be found used for like ~ $1000 total in 2026. Valorant is incredibly well-optimized and will run at 240+ FPS on this hardware with Low settings.

Keyboard: Rapid Trigger capable (Wooting 60HE+, Razer Huntsman V3)
About Rapid Trigger keyboards: In 2026, ~90% of Valorant pros use keyboards with Rapid Trigger technology. Standard keyboards require the key to fully reset before registering a new press. Rapid Trigger registers the moment you lift your finger by as little as 0.1mm. The result: instant counter-strafing. You stop moving and your first bullet is accurate dramatically faster. If you don't have one, consider it your highest-impact hardware upgrade for Valorant.
Troubleshooting
Sudden FPS drops mid-match: Usually thermal throttling. Check temps with HWiNFO64. If CPU hits 90C+, improve airflow.
Stuttering at high FPS: Often RAM-related. If you're on a single stick, add a second for dual channel. Also check that XMP/EXPO is enabled in BIOS.
Input lag even with Reflex enabled: Check for overlay interference. Discord overlay, Steam overlay, Xbox Game Bar - disable all of them. Also check that Game Mode is ON in Windows settings.
FPS below 200 even on Low: Valorant is CPU-dependent. If your GPU usage is under 80%, your CPU is the bottleneck. Close background programs, disable startup apps, or consider a CPU upgrade.
HRTF sounds weird: Disable ALL other 3D audio processing. Virtual surround, Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, headset software spatial audio. HRTF must be the only spatial processing active.

Popular Myths
"Stretched resolution gives you an advantage" In Valorant, stretched resolution does not change your sensitivity or FOV. The game locks horizontal FOV to 103 degrees regardless. Enemies look wider but move faster visually. Your cm/360 stays identical. Most pros use native 1080p for clarity.
*There is True Stretched – Which gives you an advantage IF you prefer wider characters/environments at the expense of faster optical movement (by stretching the pixels).
"Higher DPI is always better"
Above 3200 DPI, the difference in smoothing is negligible. 400 and 800 are used by ~85% of pros. It's the eDPI that counts. Some of you, however, may prefer lower or higher DPI depending on your physical predispositions. Longer material on this topic here 🙂
"You need a $5000 PC for Valorant" A used i5-10400 + GTX 1660 Super (~$1000 combined in 2026) hits 240 FPS on Low. Valorant is intentionally designed to run on accessible hardware.
"Pro crosshair settings will fix my aim" Crosshair is purely visual preference. It doesn't change bullet accuracy. Copy a pro's crosshair if you like how it looks, but your aim comes from practice and consistent sensitivity, not a crosshair code.
