Windows 11 mouse stutter in games is a confirmed system bug. In the notes for update KB5127648 from 13 October 2026, Microsoft admitted the issue could cause mouse input to stutter in some games. It affects Windows 11 versions 24H2, 25H2 and 26H2, and the fix is already in Windows Update.

If the image is smooth, the frame counter is high and the camera still jumps when you move the mouse, install this update before you start replacing hardware, lowering DPI or reinstalling drivers.

What the bug looks like

Microsoft gave neither a technical cause nor a list of games. Players reported the problem in The Division 2, where the camera stuttered on mouse movement despite a smooth image, in Final Fantasy XIV, where the cursor moved while the camera turned, and in Star Wars: The Old Republic, where the camera turned on its own after returning to the game with the Windows key. Some reports described micro-stutter on high-end PCs.

This bug is easy to mistake for a hardware problem, because the FPS counter shows nothing worrying. Players lowered DPI and polling rate, swapped mice and keyboards, did clean boots and even reinstalled the system. According to the reports collected by Windows Latest, none of these methods helped reliably.

Which Windows 11 versions are affected

Windows 11 24H226100.9711
Windows 11 25H226200.9711
Windows 11 26H226300.9711

The fix landed in the October cumulative update. It was not in the optional preview from 22 September.

How to install the fix

  1. Check Settings and go to Windows Update.
  2. Click Check for updates.
  3. Download and install KB5127648, then restart the PC.
  4. Press Win + R, type winver and check the build number. After the update it ends in .9711 or a higher number.

If Windows Update returns an error, download the package manually from the Microsoft Update Catalog by searching for KB5127648.

Important for Windows 11 24H2 Home and Pro

KB5127648 is the last update for Windows 11 24H2 in the Home and Pro editions. You will only get further security fixes after moving to 25H2 or 26H2. If you play on 24H2, plan the upgrade now, before you are left without patches.

The mouse still stutters after the update

The fix removes one cause, but not all of them. Check in this order, starting with the cheapest steps:

  1. Polling rate. Very high values, 4000 Hz and above, add CPU load, and some games handle it badly. Set 1000 Hz and compare.
  2. USB port. Plug the mouse straight into a port on the back of the motherboard, not through a hub or a monitor port.
  3. Chipset drivers. An outdated chipset driver is a boring but common cause.
  4. G-SYNC and FreeSync. Turn them off for the test to rule out the effect of display sync.
  5. Wireless receiver. Keep it away from the router and USB 3.0 drives, which can interfere with the 2.4 GHz signal.

Change one thing at a time and write down the result. If you change three settings at once, you will not know which one helped. We showed how to look for the cause of stutter at high FPS using the example of Valorant stuttering despite a high frame counter.

While you are at it, check your DPI. DPI that is too low can skip pixels and gives a jumpy feel that is easy to mistake for stutter.

When the update did not help

If the mouse stutters after the update and after all the steps above, the cause usually sits deeper: in the power plan, interrupt handling, memory settings or the BIOS. We check those things with measurements in our remote PC optimization, without guessing and without replacing hardware.

In short: install KB5127648, check the build in winver, and if the stutter stays, go through the list from polling rate to the wireless receiver.
